Training of Trainers on Entrepreneurship Development
The ‘Training of Trainers on Entrepreneurship Development’ workshop for 15 delegates from Mizoram took place at the IIMC Campus from 14th – 17th February 2019. The participants were sensitized about structuring a business model canvas. The topics covered during the session were:
An elaborate discussion on ideation tools and techniques used while structuring customers Value Proposition Model, marketing and branding requirement for any product was held. The trainers also interacted with various start-ups of IIMCIP.
The Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2018-19
The Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2018-19, a joint initiative of the Tata group and Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), received over 900 applications from across India in sectors such as agriculture; healthcare; water and sanitation; technology and development; education and skills development; housing; handicrafts; energy; and microfinance, among others. Out of 900 applications, the top 60 teams were shortlisted. This was followed by Regional Rounds at Kolkata, Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai in December last year from which the top 20 teams were selected. Besides these 20 teams, two entrepreneurs from Germany joined the Semi-finals. The Semi-final and the Grand Finale were scheduled on 11th and 12th January, 2019 respectively at IIM Calcutta.
In the Grand Finale the top three startups in the social enterprises space were identified. The winner this year was Mocxa, a healthcare-based startup, has developed a seizure diagnosis video-EEG (encephalography) solution, including a kit and an app,that is more accurate, automated, affordable and accessible for seizure sufferers worldwide. Another healthcare startup, EzeRx, was positioned as the runners-up. The start-up has developed a non-invasive, non-contact, robust portable hand-held device for accurate measurement of bilirubin level, haemoglobin concentration and oxygen saturation. The proposed device collects the spectroscopic signal of the blood from the human conjunctiva. GiftAbled won the third position in the contest. It is a microfinance-based start-up and has created a winning template by partnering with more than 40 NGOs, artisans with disability and disadvantaged artisans from across the country. GiftAbled also trains them on design, connects them with corporates and encourages inclusive procurement practices.
Eminent industry personalities also attended the event to motivate the youth towards social entrepreneurship.

IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP) in association with the Directorate of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of West Bengal conducted 3-day residential programs for the officers of the District Industries Centre and the Directorate of MSME at IIM Calcutta. The training programmes were held in 3 batches.
Health Trail- The Healthcare Accelerator Programme
IIM Calcutta Innovation Park had launched Health Trail, an accelerator to foster start-ups endeavouring to offer innovative solutions to some of the largest health problems in our country, especially in the rural sector. The Accelerator programme was conducted for 3 Months in 3 phases with a 15-Member Cohort and 7 Dedicated Mentors. Selected start-ups are eligible for seed funding upto Rs 50 lakhs.
Janhit Jagran Idea Challenge Bootcamp
The Janhit Jagran Idea Challenge Bootcamp was hosted by IIM Calcutta Innovation Park at the IIM Calcutta campus on 23rd and 24th February 2019. Nearly 30 start-ups attended the two-day bootcamp. The start-ups were mentored and guided on how to make a winning pitch. In addition, a team from VR SAARP & Co, a reputed CA firm, deliberated on compliance. Pitching sessions were also held during the bootcamp.
